Home caregivers from Western PA, greater Philadelphia, northeastern PA came to Harrisburg to lobby legislators for quality healthcare. Many people are unaware that the home caregivers who provide support for seniors and people with disabilities have no health insurance of their own.  A quality workforce must be a healthy workforce. State Rep. Bill DeWeese tells caregivers he will join their struggle to win quality affordable health insurance. On May 18, 2007 attendants at TRIPIL Services, a Center for Independent Living serving Washington, Fayette and Greene Counties, celebrated the formation of their union and launched their campaign to win quality affordable health insurance. 

Attendants were joined by their clients,CIL Director Kathleen Kleinmann, CEO of TRIPIL Industries Mike Cogley, and by State Representative H. William DeWeese (D- Greene).  TRIPIL attendants overwhelmingly voted last spring to join the Home Care Worker’s Union, SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania.

Client Choice

At the heart of quality home care is a stable nurturing relationship between client and caregiver. Real client choice must go beyond the ability to choose an agency.  It must extend the ability to choose a worker the client trusts to enter his or her home and provide good care. Without the right to choose a worker, client choice means little. Read more »
